Career Search Engines
If you are sitting at your desk at work, just counting down the minutes until you get to leave, you arenít alone. For some people, it may just mean nothing more than youíd rather be doing something else other than working. But for others, it may signal that itís time for a new job. But where to begin? Is there a place where you can type in your experience and education, and then just like that, you can get results for all the jobs that you are already qualified for? Fortunately, there is such a thing, and itís called a career search engine.
With competition for jobs getting higher and higher each day, it is imperative that you keep a competitive edge of others with the same experience as you. One way you can do this is by fully utilizing employment search engines. The way they work is much like how you search something like Google; you type something in and you get results that are based on the relevancy of your search terms. But while you Google something like cooking recipes or how to tie a knot, these job search engines will give you results based on your experience and how you want to work.
How employment search engines work is simple; when companies need to fill in positions they go to these websites to find the people willing to work for them, and when workers are unemployed and are searching for new jobs, this is where they go to find jobs. Itís essentially a place where employers and potential employees meet together, with common interests.
One of the most popular websites for career searches is Monster.com, which was also one of the first websites to offer jobs in a search-engine style. Going to Monster.comís homepage and you will be greeted with the fields that you are supposed to fill out. One, the title of your desired job, two, the field you wish to work in and last but certainly not least is the location, where you are living or willing to travel to for the job. The results will be similar to anybody that has used a search engine with a similar interface as Google or Yahoo! The results will be ordered from most relevant to your entered search terms to least relevant, so the first page will have the jobs that you should be most interested in. Once you have received your results you can tweak them however you see fit; for example you can change the location of jobs results from 20 miles out to 35 or so.
You can also sort the results out so that they are displayed newest to oldest, so that you are getting some of the most recent results and as a result, you are staying ahead of the competition. If you live in a big city, there will be new listings posted every hour, so you will almost never have the problem of not having enough job opportunities.
Not only do job search engines save you valuable time, but they also save you a considerable amount of money. Think about all the gas that would be spent driving around time picking up application after application. Career search engines really are the best and most effective way to start your fresh new career!
